When Jon Langford (Mekons, Three Johns, Waco Brothers) came to visit Budapest after an art exhibition in Belgrade, he got together with Martin Bramah (The Fall, Blue Orchids, Factory Star) to play a couple of gigs, each one doing a solo set, followed by a third set together, playing hits from all their various combos, a Johnny Cash cover or two and a couple of new tunes. One afternoon, they entered a basement studio and recorded four songs - two versions of Martin Bramah's "Stone Tumbling Stream," Jon Langford's never-before-heard "Worm In Your Ear," and a take on an unreleased song of Martin's from his band Thirst, "Action." We're proud to release Jon's "Worm In Your Ear" and Martin's "fast" version of "Stone Tumbling Stream here as a very limited 7" 45, featuring artwork by Jon. Martin has recorded "Stone Tumbling Stream" before, but this unique version sprang about when the two of them did a punk rock-style quick take, which was good enough to record and is quite different from what you might have heard before. Jon's song was added to and mixed differently in Chicago much later. Bass, drums, guitar and vocals . . . every note on this record is played by Jon or Martin, no one else. Is it just a coincidence that Jon's return to drumming here, after a thirty-odd year break from the kit, culminated in the revival of The Mekons' original line-up, with Jon hitting the skins once again? Maybe not.

Having crossed paths for years, it took a rare encounter to get Mekons' Jon Langford and Fall / Blue Orchids innovator
Martin Bramah into the studio together.
After performing a pair of Mittel Europa shows together, the pair entered a dark and cool Budapest studio to record a number of songs, just the two of them singing and playing guitar, bass and drums with no outside help. Here's a sample....more
